CUSTODY OF CHILD.

GRANTED TO WIFE.
——
EQUITY APPLICATION.
——

In the Equity Court yesterday, Mr Justice Long Innes granted the application of Nancy Cecelia Tresadern, wife of Leonard Tresadern, professionally known as Leonard Rich, for the custody of their infant child, Valerie Jean Tresadern, age 4½ months, at present in the custody of respondent and his mother.

His Honor said that there was no evidence to suggest that the applicant was not a fit person to have the custody of the child, nor was there any suggestion whatsoever against her morality. He considered the respondent was very much to blame in respect of the matrimonial troubles between himself and his wife, because of his midnight car drive with a woman known as “Miss Barker,” “Dot Tremayne,” or “The Flying Angel.” Whether that woman was of loose character or not his Honor could imagine nothing more calculated to create domestic trouble than for a husband to go out at midnight with a woman in her car, and remain out till 2 or 3 am. He was willing, however, to believe that no misconduct took place between the respondent and that woman. The applicant and the respondent were both young, and he trusted that they would see their way to come together again, inasmuch as their married life had been, approximately, only a year. He granted custody of the infant to the applicant, with unrestricted access to it by the respondent at all reasonable times. He ordered the respondent to pay the costs of the application.

Mr Paterson (instructed by Messrs JW Maund and Kelynack) appeared for the applicant, and Mr Dovey and Mr Leonard (instructed by Messrs Magney and Magney) represented the respondent.

RAILWAY ACCOMMODATION.
———◦———

Reference to a complaint by “Constant Traveller” about the unsatisfactory condition of the through carriage on the Harden-Blayney line, which appeared in the “Herald” of February 28, is contained in a letter to the Editor from a correspondent over the signature “NRS.” Referring to the statement of the secretary to the Railway Commissioners (Mr Morris) that on no previous occasions had complaints been made, the writer states that numerous deputations have approached the southern district Area Commissioner (Mr Reid) requesting that a better type of carriage should be placed in use on this line.
