RAILWAY LABORERS’
OFFENCES.
———◦———

TOCUMWAL, Thursday.

Andrew Lawrence Hogan, a laborer, working on the line now being constructed from Strathmerton, was before the local bench to-day charged with grossly misconducting himself with an aboriginal woman, named Caroline Farrell, in the yard of the Murray-bridge Hotel on Tuesday afternoon last.

Several men from the railway works and others were hanging about the hotel premises, in a position to see what took place. It appeared from the evidence, which was of a revolting character, that John Farrell, the white husband of the aboriginal woman, expostulated with Hogan for his behavior, and was badly assaulted.

Other men appear to have indecently handled the woman at the same time.

Hogan, who admitted a previous conviction for larceny at Rushworth, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labor in Deniliquin gaol.

The railway workmen are keeping the police busy. There have been 22 convictions at the local court this year which are traceable to them. No fewer than seven were for indecent exposure.
