TWO MEN SENTENCED.

Before his Honor, Judge White, at the Maitland Quarter Sessions, George Simpson (37), was charged with having at Newcastle, on June 1, 1928, committed an unmentionable offence, and William Cook (58) was charged with aiding and abetting.

The accused were not represented by counsel, and each entered a plea of not guilty.

During the evidence there was laughter, and his Honor said that if there was a repetition of this, he would clear the court. He added that he could not understand why some people remained in a court to listen to the evidence of such filthy cases.

The jury retired at 10.45, and returned into court again at 11.10 with verdicts of guilty.

In passing sentence, his Honor said that it was not one of those offences, which had such an effect on the rest of society. Accused were each sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour in Maitland gaol.
