ASSAULT
Claude Berry, aged 16 years, pleaded guilty to assault [on Renten or Renton Bailey] at Lismore on May 17.
The Crown Prosecutor said it was an exceptional case, and one that should have been dealt with in the Children’s Court. The boy was well conducted, and had not long left school.
Mr Sheridan (instructed by Messrs McIntosh and Best), who appeared for accused, called Rev AG Moore, Mr AO Hacking, and Sergeant Muir, each of whom gave Berry an excellent character.
Accused was remanded for sentence.
The accused was brought up at a later stage, when he was bound over in his own recognisances of £50 and one surety to a similar amount to come up for sentence if called upon within two years. His Honour advised the accused’s father to give him a good whipping.
