The Chief Commissioners, Mr Dare, in reply to the representations of the deputation, stated it was only fair that the people served by the creek should be placed in at least as good a position as they were before the river was controlled, but the proportion of the expense of the scheme to be borne by the Commission was a matter for consideration. When the Commission had consulted with the Minister, and some decision had been arrived at, those interested would be advised. Mr Dare, who received the deputation sympathetically, stated that the Minister and Commissioner would be passing to the Irrigation Area. Mr Buttenshaw would advise them of the date, and an interview could then be arranged.

Two pests are in evidence at the present time—flies and mosquitoes.
…
The Recorder at Newcastle on Tyne, in accepting a pair of white gloves, said the police attributed the great reduction in crime to the influence of the movies. A man and his family now patronised the pictures instead of the hotels.
