GOULBURN POLICE COURT.
————
Saturday, August 5.

    Before Mr Arnott, PM.
…

A COSTLY “JOY RIDE.”

Arthur Elliott [aka Arthur Tapp] and James Smith were charged with maliciously damaging a motor-car, the property of Toohey’s, Ltd, on or about Aug 2.

Mr Thomas appeared for the prosecution.

    Defendants pleaded guilty.

Mr Thomas said that Mr [Charles William] Brentnall, 2 travelling for Toohey’s, Ltd, left the car in the garage at the Imperial Hotel. Defendants took it out and went for a joy-ride, finishing up by getting bogged and damaging the vehicle. As a result, Mr Brentnall had lost time and the repairs to the car had cost over £50.

Defendants were fined £5 each, with 21/- professional costs and 12/- witnesses’ fees, and ordered to pay damage to car—total £21-7 each—in default three months in Goulburn Gaol. Time was allowed on finding surety.
