GLEANINGS.
———◦———

…
Edward Davis, a colored man, was at Darlinghurst Sessions convicted before Judge Murray on a charge of indecent assault. On being asked if there was any reason why the Court should not pass sentence on him he pleaded that it was his first offence. His Honor asked for the records, when it was stated that the accused had been very little out of gaol for the last 14 years. He had committed over 60 offences, of which there were nine convictions for stealing, and 51 others, principally for drunkenness. Davis was sentenced to five years’ penal servitude.
