ALLEGED HORSE STEALING.

Frederick Smith, with several aliases, 28, waiter, and Albert Smith, 26, carter, appeared at the Water Police Court yesterday, charged with stealing a pony, cart, and harness, valued at £40, the property of William Langer, on April 9.

William Langer’s evidence was to the effect that he left the turnout, with the wheels locked, and the reins tied, outside the place he was transacting business in Pitt-street. Looking out of the window he saw his trap in the possession of two men, who were driving away. Witness followed in a cab, and the two men were arrested in Sussex-street. On the arrest of the two men by Constable WR Walsh, the accused Frederick Smith said: “I took them. I’ll take all the blame.” Neither accused offered any defence, and both were committed for trial.
