“FIGHT AGAINST ODDS
———◦———
PLUCKY CONSTABLE.
Sydney, Saturday.
…
PLAIN-CLOTHES MEN ATTACKED.
Charles Richard Goodridge (29), an American, was sent to gaol for two months, from the Central Police Court, for assaulting Constables Henry A Swift, and Harold Bruce Stuckey. The evidence was that, when ordered away from Crown-street, near Oxford-street, defendant struck Stuckey in the mouth, and punched him on the left side of the face; he also struck Swift on the left ear, and the constable was still feeling the effects of the blow.
Answering Sergeant Napper, defendant said the constables were in plain clothes, and he did not know they were police.”
