ST PATRICK’S DAY
———◦———

To-day is St Patrick’s Day, observed by Irishmen throughout the world as the natal day of Ireland’s national apostle. The local celebrations will be on much the same lines as in previous years. Sports will be held at the Agricultural Ground, and during the day the visiting South African athletes will compete with representatives of this state, Victoria, and Queensland. Some 5,000 children are to be marshalled on the ground, to form in living letters the words “God Bless Free Ireland.” The oration will be delivered by Rev Dr Dwyer, Bishop of Wagga. An Irish national concert will be held in the Town Hall at night. A special service of trams will be run from Circular Quay and the Railway to the Agricultural Ground, commencing at 11.50 am.

SAVING THE TREES.
———◦———

The hon secretary of the Architects’ Association of New South Wales (Mr GJ Hill), referring yesterday to the statement made in the annual report of the Institute of Architects of New South Wales that the institute had been instrumental in preventing the destruction of trees along the Pitt-street frontage of the Central Railway Station, said that action was taken by the Institute of Architects in conjunction with the Architects’ Association of New South Wales.
