CHARGE OF FORGING ORDERS.
———◦———
At the Central Police Court yesterday, Julia Teresa Commens, aged 40 years, was committed for trial on five charges of having forged and uttered orders on city business firms.
It was stated by Detective Lynch that the accused admitted having signed orders for goods from Lassetter and Co, Farmer and Co, and David Jones and Co, under fictitious names, and had the goods consigned to Katoomba. He searched the accused’s home, which was situated in an almost inaccessible spot in the Kanimbla Valley, near Blackheath, and found knives, children’s hose and boots, and other articles. When he questioned the accused she said:—“I am very sorry for what I have done. I have had a very hard life, and I wanted to get some clothing for the children and to save a little money in order that I might give them some education, which I never had. I wanted to send them to a boarding-school next year. I was left with the responsibility of 11 children when I was 17 years of age, and the youngest was only an infant. I think it must have affected my brain.” All the goods she had received, she continued, had been used and worn out.
Bail was allowed.

POSED AS RETURNED SOLDIER.

At the North Sydney Police Court yesterday, before Mr Gates, SM, Charles William Anderson, alias William George Eckert, 41, blacksmith, was charged with having, at Mosman, on July 11, falsely represented himself to be a returned soldier, contrary to section 80A of the Defence Act . Defendant pleaded guilty.
Sergeant O’Reilly said that he saw defendant in Rangers-avenue, Mosman, wearing a returned soldier’s badge. He was walking lame, but after having had his name taken walked smartly away. When witness followed him defendant ran away, but was subsequently caught and arrested. He then stated that he had not been to the war, and that he had picked up the badge three years previously.
The magistrate imposed a fine of £10, in default two months’ imprisonment with hard labour.
