QUARTER SESSIONS.

SECOND DAY.

Tuesday, June 11.

…
AN ABOMINABLE CRIME.
John Jeromsen [aka Jeromson], age 23, was arraigned on a charge of having at Carrington, on April 28, committed an abominable offence [of bestiality with a drake].
The accused pleaded not guilty, and was undefended, Mr John Ash being foreman of the jury.
The disgusting circumstances of the case were repeated. The accused denied the charge, and said that it was a case of mistaken identity, as he was not near the spot at the time stated.
The jury, after a very short retirement, returned a verdict of guilty of the attempt.
The Judge sentenced the accused to two years’ imprisonment in Maitland Gaol with hard labour, and in doing so said that had the man been found guilty of the actual offence and not the attempt the sentence would have been much heavier.
